Citizens’ Police Academy
October 2nd - December 4th, 2017
The Grand Blanc Township Police Department is pleased to announce that it will be conducting it’s first Citizens’ Police Academy October 2nd- December 4th, 2017. This 10 week program will primarily be held at the Grand Blanc Township Police Dept on Monday evenings from 6:00pm – 8:30pm. The goal of the Citizens’ Police Academy is to familiarize the attendees with the Department’s structure, services and personnel. The Academy will not give the participants any authority or certification, but will demonstrate the daily duties of law enforcement and enhance the citizen’s awareness and understanding of the Department’s roles in the community. All instruction will be provided by certified Police Officers or employees of the Grand Blanc Township Police Department and will consist of lectures, demonstrations, videos and “hands-on” participation.

After successful completion of the Citizens’ Police Academy, graduates will be offered the opportunity to ride-along with a Grand Blanc Township police officer during a portion of the shift.
- Willingness to commit to the full 10 week program
- 21 years of age
- Good physical/mental health
- No prior felony convictions and no misdemeanor convictions within 3 years.
- U. S. citizen
- Valid drivers’ license
The Academy size will be limited to 20 people and requires an application process involving a background investigation. Applicants must be at least 21 years old, have no felony convictions, and have no misdemeanor convictions within 3 years. We are hoping to invite a diverse group of people from the community who live or work in the Grand Blanc Township area. Everyone is invited to attend, but special preference will be given to residents of Grand Blanc Township. There is no cost to attend the Academy.
Applications are available at the Grand Blanc Township Police Department website, or, picked up at the Police Department. All applications need to be submitted to the GBTPD prior to September 22nd, 2017. Those chosen to attend will be notified via Email as soon as the selection process is complete.
*Please note that, henceforth, we intend to conduct the Academy on an annual basis.
